Las Vegas Sickle Cell Walk & Symposium

On Saturday, September 8th, The Playroom attended the 1st Annual Walk-A-Thon & 2nd Annual Symposium presented by the Las Vegas Sickle Cell Association at the Dr. William U. Pearson Center in North Las Vegas. The Master of Ceremonies for the 2K walk-a-thon was SFC. Farron Dozier of What'z Da Count and there was also music provided by DJ So Hype who spinned the latest in Hip Hop and also some of our favorite songs from the 70's, 80's & 90's. After the 2K walk ended attendees were welcomed to a luncheon to immediately be followed by the symposium. The Symposium inclluded topics on Sickle Cell screening, testing, types of Sickle Cell, pain management and the transistion from child care to adult care. It included talks from experts Dr. Jonathan Bernstein who focuses on Pediatric Hematology, Dr. Rina Shopnick who focuses on Adult Medicine & Dr. Jack Lazerson who focuses on Hematology. There were also special guest on hand to talk they Included Master of Ceremonies SFC. Farron Dozier of Whatz Da Count who focused on Sickle Cell Trait Awareness, Kryshon "Gurl 4 Sickle Cell" Huffman who's an advocate for Sickle Cell and Pretescia Walker, Board Certified Acute Care Nurse Practitioner.
